Lightened Up Menu for Post Thanksgiving Detox
In October 2014, Three Beans on a String is launched a new series – weekly seasonal menus. Every Saturday or Sunday I post a menu designed to provide you with a plan for a nutritious dinner, six nights a week. Each dinner is based on ingredients that are locally available and in season now.
More about menu planning
Planning our menus is the single most important part of my week when it comes to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. I decided to start sharing our family’s full menus because I think there are a lot of people out there who are interested in eating healthy, seasonal, local food but just don’t have the time to invest in planning their own. Our menus are designed to feed a family of four, often with leftovers that can be used for lunches or can be frozen for later.
I welcome your comments as I work through this experiment. I hope you’ll provide feedback, suggestions for seasonal recipes to include, and your thoughts on the challenges of menu planning. I’d also love to see some examples of your own menus. Comment on this page or send me a note via the contact form.
Our family’s diet consists mostly of lean protein and vegetables, sourced from local farms, a community supported agriculture program, and farmer’s markets. Check our our FAQ for more information on why we choose to eat locally sourced foods. We are not strictly Paleo because occasionally we eat legumes and, much less often, dairy and/or grains. Meatless Monday is family tradition for us, although we joke around a lot about adding bacon to everything. Depending on what we got in our CSA basket this week, there may be additional vegetarian meals each week.
Many of the recipes including in the menus come from the Three Beans on a String recipe box, but others recipes come from some of my favorite bloggers.
How the menus work
If you need to make substitutions because you can’t find an ingredient or because of personal dietary requirements, take a look at our our recipe page for a replacement.
